These are signs of severe dehydration and they need a hospital, not a home visit.

What is cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome?

CHS shows up in people who use cannabis regularly, often for years. It moves through three stages.

Early stage

Morning nausea and stomach pain. No vomiting yet. This can go on for months or years without anyone connecting it to cannabis.

Acute stage

Overwhelming, repeated vomiting. Some people vomit several times an hour for 24 to 48 hours. Severe stomach pain. No appetite.

Recovery

Symptoms may fade after cannabis use stops completely. Recovery can take time.

The hot shower thing

People with CHS find that hot showers or hot baths bring real relief, and they end up taking them compulsively, sometimes for hours a day. Regular nausea medication usually does not help. Hot water does.

Vomiting repeatedly for a day or more strips out water, sodium, potassium and magnesium. That is what causes the weakness, the dizziness, the headache and the racing heart.

Drinking fluids does not work when you cannot keep anything down. IV fluids bypass the stomach entirely.
